Controller often shows 8 was created by mr_anderson
Hi
I have a RoboteQ AX-2850HE controller and often is shows and "8" in the LED display when reading it's settings from the RoboRun!
The 8 disappears if i cut the power for a few seconds before powering the controller up again!
I also have a problem with the encoder module, when it finally reads the configuration the Encoder module is "not present"...
The power supply is at 24 volts and both the cables are connected to two motors!
Anybody how can help?

8 is displayed when the controller detects an undervoltage condition.
More troubling is the fact that Roborun does not display the encoder information.
Verify first that the problem is not because you have an encoder connected that draws too much current.
If you see "controller found" and the controller info and software revision date displays on the top right, while no encoder is detected, then this points to possibly a faulty encoder module.
You can try removing the encoder module. Power off, remove the front bracket, slide the cover, pull out the module.
If after that the controller is always found and no "8" is displayed, the encoder module is faulty.

The encoder connected draws maximum 25 mA and as I read of the data-sheet the encoder module will max deliver 100 mA pr. encoder connected to it...<BR><BR>When I remove the encoder module, the controller stops showing 8 - and i can access it from the RoboRun utility (the module shows an 8 very shortly and then continues normally) The supply voltage is by the way 24 volt connected by 2 - 12 volts car batteries!<BR><BR>The controller module works fine when i access it from the Hyper-terminal or from an AVR micro controller. But in Hyper-terminal it shows <B>00000000010000009D9E756A</B> before I send 10 x carriage returns - it then replies with OK... is the above numbers/letter correct?<BR>

It looks like the encoder module is bad.

Thanks for the reply - just what I was afraid of... <BR><BR>I bought the controller from your distributor in Italy (<A href="www.eurobotics.it/" target=_blank target=_blank>www.eurobotics.it/) - should i contact them or fill out the form on this web page (dev.roboteq.com/dev1/form-support.html" target=_blank target=_blank>dev.roboteq.com/dev1/form-support.html )?

Use our form. We will keep the distributor in the loop.
