HDC2450 channel shutting down?

We have an application where we have a HDC2450 2ch running two differential transaxle units in a moving piece of scenery. Each channel is being given the same speed command via MiniCan and a script running on the drive. Under normal circumstances, everything seems to run normally. However we are seeing on occasion that when one of the wheels slips, that it seems to spin very fast and the the unit stalls. Wondering what if any faults could be happening in the drive that might cause one channel to shutdown, and if it could in turn cause a shut down on the other? I believe I have all of current fault conditions turned off, but an hoping someone might be able to clarify what other faults might occurring. Drag for us is that with the MiniCAN as our only control source, there is no way to monitor the drive with the software tools while we are actually running.

Is the command operation for the motors in open loop mode or closed loop mode? Also the motor mixing, which mode is it in; Mixed(mode 1, 2, or 3), or separate?

Both channels are set to run in closed loop. More often then not they seem to be running very well in that mode. Tried open loop at one point but would fall so far off my motion controllers profile, that it wasn;t going to work.

Mixing ( I believe ) is separate. hsould not be using any mixing.

Is the closed loop mode a speed, or position? Also, your stall condition may occur as a result of the closed loop error detection. Is the loop error detection set to disabled, or one of the 3 other values?

The PID values, what are they set at? In the speed mode, the Integral (I) gain will be used more than the Proportional (P) gain.

My I gain = 2, p = 1. Have played with the gains a little and these seem work well? The tuning was just a lot of trial and errir since again we can't monitor the drive while controlling it.

Try the following.

In the Run tab, set up some channels in the bottom right corner of the browser. Set them to the following.

Motor command 1
Motor power 1
Motor Amps 1
Motor command 2
Motor Power 2
Motor Amps 2

Run the script like you would. Run it for a minute or 2. Then at the bottom right there is a save button. Save the log using the save button.

Then run the script again, and this time try to get the motor to stall like you stated in your original post. Save the log and send these to use to analyze.

This is my fundamental problem. I have no way to run the drive while monitoring with usb because of CAN control.

You can connect the controller to the PC by running 3 wires out from the db25 pin connector. GND(pin 1), Tx(pin 2), Rx(pin 3), of RS232 to a serial to USB converter. This way you can use the can.
