FBL2360 HALL second channel not working

Hello,

Our company is actually working on a prototype of an outdoor robot. We bought 2 ROBOTEQ flb2360 and 4 geared Brushless motors.

one of the two controllers had a problem in its Hall sensor connector (i think).
After making all the necessary connections and linking the controller to a PC using USB, Motor 1 works without a hitch but motor 2 Isn't responding at all. When moving the command cursor in Roborun, Sometimes the Stall icon turns red with Amps drawn at zero. Sometimes the Stall icon turns red but with the motor drawing a huge amount of Amps, like 60 amps at 1/4 command (the motor is a 650W NANOTEC DB87L with a nominal current of 18 Amps and a no load current of 2.1 Amps). Sometimes, and its a really rare case, the motor turns but with a lot of vibration. I tried changing the order of the motor phases to not avail. I also tried updating the firmware to a newer version but still had the same problem.

i managed to reduce the amount motor 2 stalls but i had to jam the crimp terminal directly in the connector without the housing and even the the motor only rotates occasionally with a lot of vibration

i tested the other controller to make sure that the problem isn't from the motors and everything seems fine with it.

Can you help me with my problem ?

You can do the following actions to trouble shoot the Hall input on any channel:

1.) You didn't mention which version of firmware is on your controller. Please make sure you have updated to the latest release available on our website (v1.7). There were some known bug on hall input in previous firmware revisions that were fixed in this latest release.

2) Swap motors on both channels of the controller and check if the problem is specific to the motor or specific to the hall channel.

3) Use the ?HS command to check that all Hall states are observed. See pages 94 and 248 of our User Manual for more instruction about this.

4) Use a voltmeter between individual hall inputs (A,B or C) and GND and check the voltage at both logic level 1 and logic level 0.

thank you for the reply. I followed the instructions you gave me and here are the results:

1) the firmware of my controller is at 1.7. I already updated the firmware before i contacted you and it didn't solve my problem

2) i tried swapping the same motor in the channel 1 and 2 . In channel 1 , the motor is working smoothly. In channel 2, the motor is working now but with a lot of vibration and jerkiness

3) As per the instructions in the user manual, i connected the motor to channel 1 then 2 and i turned it by hand while running the ?HS command continuously. In channel 1, the motor can be turned smoothly and the values returned are ranging from 1 to 6. In channel 2, when i turned by hand, the motor tend to go to a certain predetermined location and the values returned by ?HS are either 4,5 or 6

4) i used a voltmeter to measure the voltage in the HALL inputs. HALL A and B are working and oscillating between 0 and 5V . HALL C is not working at all.

Thank you for performing those tests. If the ?HS for Hall channel 2 only ever yields 4, 5 and 6 that means the logic levels are only ever CBA = 100, 101 & 110. In this case Hall C is always high. You can confirm this by checking with your volt meter between C and GND, I'm guessing it will constantly show 5V no matter what the motor position. If this is the case the problem is with the hall sensor and not the controller.

I understand the logic behind the working of the controller and I just rechecked the motor and the controller connections. Still the results are still the same with channel 2: ?HS returns 4,5 or 6 and HALL C is always at 0V. To make sure that the HALL sensor is working i plugged the motor in channel 1 and it works fine. I even tested it with the second FBL2360 we acquired and it works fine. I can send pictures or video if it can help.

Is it possible that the problem lies in a faulty connection inside ?

It is possible. Will you please test one more thing. Remove the hall connection from the controller and with your volt meter just measure between the Hall 2C input and GND on the controller itself. Please let me know what you see

measuring the voltage between Hall 2C and GND gave me 0V . Hall 2A and 2B gave me 5V.
