MDC2230 won't start

I have 2 MDC2230s with the same issue:
I'm pretty sure something in the script is causing the issue,
I have tried updating the firmware via RS232, fails
I have tried the 'turn on and click download to device with 'terminate' script, fails.
Here are 2 pictures showing issue. Console repeats starting.... over and over, and shot of failed firmware update.

Just noticed this in the manual for SetConfig / GetConfig "No check is performed that the value you store is valid so this function
must be handled with care."

Why the code would work while connected to usb then totally crash after restart, I have no idea. How do I fix these controllers?
