firmware update

I have an SDC2130s with old firmware (v1.3) that I am trying to update to v1.8 with the Robotec v1.8 Control Utility on a Win 7 computer. Firmware will not load via COM or USB. The controller resets but the device is not found again after reset, the script subsequently fails. I have not been able to work around. Help needed.
