BMS1040ABT erroneous short load errors

I have a BMS1040ABT, and it is connected to a robot that draws 2 amps at 24V (6S Lipo pack).   The BMS will hold the load in the on condition for anywhere between 0 and about 30 seconds, but then throws a 'short load' error, and disconnects the load.  I have confirmed with a current probe that the load isn't increasing.  I have also run the robot off a bench top power supply rated for 5A for hours.  I have tried setting the THLD parameter for the load to all values in the manual, from 0 to 3.  A value of 3 should be 'disabled'.  It throws the 'short load' error and disconnects no matter what.  Please help!
