Roboteq SBLM2360T Incorrect RPM but correct hall sensor

I'm using the SBLM2360T to control 2 motors with hall sensors. When I test the motors in open loop the hall sensor reading seems to be increasing and decreasing fine. However the reported RPM ranges from -20000 to 30000 and all kinds of other inaccurate RPMs. Motor pole pairs are set to 24 and -24. What could be the issue?
