trying to use roborun/server over an 802.11 wireless link.
- roborun on controller computer (always) finds controller and indicates communication ok
- roboserver displays \"com 1 not available\' if controller is connected to com 1
- roboserver displays \"com 1 open\" if controller is connected to com 2

- in either case robo run on remote computer links with controller host computer, but cannot find controller

already reloaded software several times
also, cant seem to find any description of roboservers function in any manuals etc. am i looking in the wrong places?

???????????????????????????????

Roboserver is briefly discussed in the manual in the Roborun section. There is normally not much to it.

We are not aware of any issue with the serial port. Which OS are you using?

All users we know have used it with XP.

Are you using the black factory supplied cable to connect the controller to the computer?

yes, using the supplied cable.

in the interest of being thorough, what should the led display on the controller indicate during all of this. could it be giving any clues as to what is happening?

also tried the hyperterm program on the roboteq start menu. it displayed a continuous stream of \"W\". and also displayed the controllers rev#,etc when controller power was cycled.

just found an old post (about 4 years ago) where a link is provided to versions of roboserver which are capable of using com ports other than \'1\'. but the links seem to be inactive. these may be helpful to determine if the problem is with the com 1 port or the software (as well as useful with other hardware housekeeping items) are these still avail anywhere?

post title ref: is there a way to change the com port the roborun server uses?

specifically posts #2143385 and #2131983

thanks

We need to setup a system and test on our side. We won\'t be able to do this for another few days, unfortunately.

If the controller can communicate with the pc via com1, then the cable and ports are ok.

GOOD NEWS! Switched computers back again today, and started to get different symptoms (error messages) depending on which source was connected to the controller (e.g. motor source, power control input, or both). Then for some(?)reason, everyting began to work. Roborun on host finds controller and communicates (as before), roboserver indicates \"com 1 open); roborun on remote declares: connected to (IP),opening controller communication,no controller info,no HW info,no FET info,no amp info,no encoder info.

Best of all, the motors can be controlled by remote. However if set at one speed and no additional adjustments are made, motors will shut off inabout 45 - 200 seconds (I dont know if this is normal or not, I guess I\'ll hit the manual tonight and see if this is mentioned)

The motor stopping sound like the watchdog kicked in. This happens when the controller stop receiving any command for 1s or more. Roborun is sending commands continously but it may be that via internet, there is extra latency from time to time.

Try configuring the controller with Roborun so that it defaults to RS232 mode with watchdog disabled. Then try again.

hello again, just got back to this project, an have encountered more problems (im beginning to think im cursed)

took everything off the bench and have it mounted in the robot. system will go forward and backward, but doesnt have enough torque to turn left or right ... ?

setup is wheeled, 4wd, two PMDC gearmotors, skid steer

batteries are new and fully charged

drive train has plenty of torque to turn when using another controller (different mfr)

when turning right, both motors have a small amount of output torque, but not enough to turn

when turning left, symptoms the same except left motor output begins to oscilate, making the entire system shake (at about 4Hz), but still not enough torque to turn

Symptoms same for joystick control and mouse control of on screen controls (in roborun)

curent limiting and accel settings in roborun are set at max

wait a minute, while writing this description of the problems i just had another question:

roborun on remote computer is sucessfully sending comands to controller via ethernet link and robo server. BUT, robo run screen on remote compuer says \'no controller info\",\"no HW info\",\"no fet, anp, encoder info\", etc. could i have set the current limit in roborun on the remote computer, and that info was never sent or updated to the host computer with the controller connected? (is this even possible, or must all parameter changes be made only through robo run running in the host computer), Please advise
