RoborunPlus v15-101015 suddenly fails to start

7 years 5 months ago #29531931 by LROBBINS
After many months of using Roborun+ with only nuisance problems, this afternoon it suddenly fails to start. This morning it was working fine. A screen shot of the error dialog is attached.

I have tried a repair, removal and re-installation, and complete shut down and restart of the PC (Win7-x64) all to no avail. If you have no suggestions, I will backup recent files and restore the HDD from an image made about a week ago, but a less cumbersome solution would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Lenny

Hi Lenny,

Sorry for the problem you are encountering. Follow the directions below to fix the issue. You will need to use the attached file.

If you have 32 bit windows, please follow the steps below:
> Extract the attached .rar file (rename .ra_ into .rar).
> Copy strip.ocx file to C:\windows\system32 directory.
> Run cmd as administrator.
> In the command prompt window navigate to the system32 folder:   cd c:\windows\system32
> Register the ocx:   regsvr32 /i strip.ocx
> Try run the application.

If you have 64 bit windows, please follow the steps below:
> Extract the attached .rar file (rename .ra_ into .rar). > Copy strip.ocx file to C:\windows\SysWOW64\ directory.
> Run cmd as administrator.
> In the command prompt window navigate to the SysWOW64 folder:   cd C:\windows\SysWOW64\
> Register the ocx:   regsvr32 strip.ocx

Blake,

Thanks, this would seem to be far less cumbersome than restoring a disc from image + incremental updates. However, both WindowsExplorer and WinZip said that the archive is INVALID -- until I renamed it from .zip (not .ra_) to .rar! Off to copy and register strip.ocx.

Oh well, win some, lose some. There was already a strip.ocx file of the same size, but I replaced it with the freshly downloaded one and registered it. Roborun+, however, still fails to load AND GIVES THE SAME ERROR. HELP!

Lenny

Lenny the above solution should work. If it does not try the following link:

No, copying and registering a fresh strip.ocx didn't work, and the link you just posted gives a 404 error. However, restoring my HDD from an image did bring back Roborun. When I tried to copy back all recently changed files in the User directory, however, the visual basic error came back again - so some file in there had been corrupted. I haven't tried to track that down any further, but again restored the image and copied back only recently changed document files. All OK now. (If I have some spare time, I will try to track it down further and let you know what, if anything, I find out.)

BTW, in order to keep working while all this was going on, I retrieved the beat up old lap top that normally resides between drill press and soldering station. This has been an annoyance, but I actually haven't lost much productive time.

Ciao,
Lennyh
