DFULoader does not start

7 years 5 days ago #29532064 by maple
Running Windows 7 64-bit. Until today Roborun+ (v1.5) worked fine and I also was able to update some controllers with new firmware, although with some extra problems. Unfortunately I don't remember what I did last time to make it work. Note that when I connect Roboteq Windows notifies me that "some device malfunctioned" but Roborun+ can connect and operate the controller.

Today I tried to update firmware on MDC2230S. When I clicked "Update firmware via USB" the device switched to dfu mode and then DFULoader started. However it could not see the device.

I uninstalled software and installed new version (v1.6). The Roborun+ is still working. However now DFULoader does not even start. When I run it I am getting the following message:
"The program can't start because STDFU.dll is missing from your computer"

I could not find STDFU.dll anywhere in the installation. I can see "Roboteq motor controller (COM5)" device in Device manager when the device is not in dfu mode. Its driver is located at windows/system32/drivers/usbser.sys

We apologize for the inconvenience. Please use the attached Roborun+ Setup, it is the latest revision and includes the correct DFULoader program files.

Sorry I forgot to mention. Change the extension of the file to .rar. This forum will not allow any attachments besides .zip.

You also forgot to mention that I have to manually force unsigned "STM Device in DFU Mode" driver installation after device is switched into DFU mode :) And then reboot as the driver cannot start right away.

Anyway, it worked! Thanks!

There is one problem, though. The window of DFULoader is not resizable and it is much smaller than its contents. As a result I cannot see whatever button activates upload. Just by intuition I pressed "Tab" until focus disappeared from screen and then pressed "Enter". Apparently focus was on correct button since upload started. Would be nice if you set correct size for the window or at least make it resizable.

Although, my display is configured to use "Medium - 125%" text size in control panel, which might be the cause of this. I'll try to change it to 100% next time and see if it helps.

I tried to update firmware via USB also on MDC2230, but the DFU window does not have any control buttons visible, other that to select the download file.
I gave up and used the RS-232 firmware update instead.
I downloaded Roborun+ 1.6 first, so I'm assuming it's all the latest software.
Would be good to get DFU usable!

This was a bug with a previous version of Roborun that was available on our website that has since been addressed. Try downloading the latest available on our website, I have confirmed that it has a working DFU loader. It is Rev 1.6 dated 06/07/2016.

That is the version I have, which I downloaded yesterday. Can't see any buttons, other than select file.

You can try the trick I've described above. After selecting correct firmware press "Tab" until focus disappears from screen, then press "Enter". Worked for me.
