Roborun+ 1.8 problems

Roborun+ 1.8 problems was created by LROBBINS
Following the recent announcement of major enhancements included in the newly released Roborun+ 1.8, I downloaded and installed it on two computers - one running Win7-x64 and the other with Win10-x64. The new features indeed look handy, particularly the ability to watch the console while in the Run tab, but for several reasons, one MAJOR and the others minor, I have had to revert to version 1.7.
The major problem is that with 1.8 I cannot download scripts to my HDC2450 controllers. It informs me that a license is needed and that I don't have it.
The minor problems all relate to the default normal window, and may be particularly a function of my wide aspect-ratio screens. Already requiring re-sizing to make earlier versions usable on these screens, not even that suffices for V 1.8. Unless opened full screen, much of the height is off-screen (as before), but now the scroll bars and shortcut-key navigation don't work either. For example, with a script open one cannot get to the bottom of the file with ctrl-end (though this is sort of "cured" if showing the error pane is toggled ON)!
Seems as though this release needs a bit more work.
In contrast, the updated firmware has not caused me any problems, though I certainly would appreciate a bit more explanation than what's in the change log! What does "- Fixed number of script timers for SDC2XXX, RCB503, HDC2XXX (8)" imply? Are there now 8 timers available? Does "- Implemented Battery Amps Averaging" change the behavior of GetValue (_BATAMPS,nn)?
Ciao,
Lenny

Hello Lenny,
Thanks for your questions.
We are changing the license policy for the utility. Code larger than 1000bytecodes (approx 100 lines) now requires a paid licensed version, this is likely the reason you were unable to load your script.
The aspect ratio issues were noticed just after the newsletter went out with the original v1.8 release of the new Utility. This has been addressed and an even newer release was published on our website in the Downloads Center on July 31st. Please give this new version a try and see if it solves the aspect ratio issues for you.
Regarding the firmware update log:
The "script timers" is referring specifically to the timer functions settimercount()/gettimercount()/settimerstate()/gettimerstate(), see page 205 of our manual. The HDC2460 with an RCB503 specifically now has 8 timer indexes.
The battery amps averaging simply fixed in issue in certain controllers in which the reported battery amps would fluctuate significantly and somewhat erroneously.
Thanks for your questions.

I just have a brand new laptop and tried the roborun app for the first time an hour ago.
Now the laptop is getting very hot, has never been this hot before because it's a quadcore i7 which can do anything super-easy....
I thought something was wrong untill i noticed the roborun app was still running.....so that issue still isn't fixed!
Then i tried to go to this forum but somehow i only could go to the japanese language site from roboteq, i had to reboot the pc to get this english version again...don't know why that is, never had that before. I just went to roboteq.com like always and am in Thailand now, not in japan anymore and this laptop has never been there.
Strange...
So now we need to use V1.8? Are all the bugs fixed of that version? I don't want to be testperson anymore.

Version 1.8, despite some GUI fixes in the version now at the Download Center, does seem to still have various problems as well as the license requirement. For most of us, V 1.7 is still usable, despite lacking some nice "bells and whistles" of the new version. Although 1.7 is no longer available at the Download Center, I have gotten written permission from Roboteq Tech Support to make 1.7 available to those who hadn't kept a backup copy. You can download it at:
Roborun+ V 1.7
Roborun+ V 1.7

License requirement?? Well i don't have the box or any papers of my controller here with me.
So i'll stick with v1.7 which is still installed in the controller.
But Roborun has a serious bug to make my laptop so hot. Normally even the coolingfans never go on, no matter what i do in ambient temp. of 100 fahrenheit.
I downloaded the file from Lenny but actually i want Roboteq to keep V1.7 available for downloads...my customer doesn't want me to loose anymore time on stupid problems and V1.7 was especially written for me and my configuration since i lost so much time with previous versions errors and bugs.

Erik,
Since the thread title refers to 1.8 I assumed you were having problems with this new version of Roborun+ (which requires a license above and beyond the purchase of a controller). Roborun+ is NOT installed in the controller, just in the computer - it is quite separate from the firmware that is in the controller. I have not had any problems like what you report nor have I seen any reports of that from anyone else. Unless Tech Support chimes in and suggests something else, I'd suggest that you uninstall Roborun+, completely shut down the PC and re-start it, then re-install Roborun+.
Best of luck getting control of this,
Lenny

Oh i see, sorry for the confusion...i thought they made new firmware for the controller...so roborun 1.8 can still run with firmware V1.7.....
The overheatingproblem has been discussed by me and others many months ago, there also was an issue with the touchpad going erratic, more users had that issue. It was caused by the adapter from laptops but only for adapters (or you guys call it voltage transformers or so) which laptops use..But i found out that if you use a laptop-adaptor with a ferro ring in the adapter-cable (a black round thing in the cable) than you don't get that issue.
Anyway, thanks for your help..i use roborun 1.8 now i assume (downloaded it today) and it worked fine but i haven't tried scripts yet...i'll start studying about that this week. I also want an arduino to controll the controller and will connect it soon.

Yes, they did also issue new firmware v 1.8. Be aware that Roborun+ V 1.8 will not allow you to download a script unless you purchase an extra license. I'd suggest keeping a copy of Roborun+ V 1.7 around. Both the V 1.7 and V 1.8 firmware will work with either Roborun V 1.7 or V 1.8.
