I am using a SDC2160 to control some wheelchair motors. The system has run for several years, but recently the motors started spinning out of control. It turns out one of the mosfets had blown out. The SDC2160 is set to limit current well below its maximum. Also, the SDC2160 is able to provide more than the max power the motors can handle. Any idea what might be causing this?

It could have shorted current through the motor somehow. Please let me know what motor you are using this controller with and what power supply. We can look at replacing the controller under an extended warranty.

I'm using an electrocraft wheelchair motor. Part # 925-102-005-01. Motor continuous power = 175W, Peak power = 1000W, Voltage = 24V.
I'm driving it with an SDC2160 connected to a 24V battery.

1000W at 24V - that means that there is a stall current of 41 A. The SDC2160 only supports a maximum of 30 A.

The SDC2160 is too small for a wheelchair application. We recommend the HDC2460 for Wheelchair applications.
