Roborun on a Mac

Roborun on a Mac was created by RogueWarrior
I've just tested the new Parallels virtualization software for running Windows on an Intel-based Mac running Roborun with a Keyspan USB to Serial adapter and it appears to work fine.

Maybe if the boys are feeling ambitous, they'd let me write a Mac-native version of Roborun w/ all the bells & whistles. (hint hint)

I would personally love to see a version of this software written for Linux!

In GTK, WxWidgets, QT... whatever... but it would be real handy... and I am sure popular! Many people playing around with robots etc would be using linux, bsd or similar I am sure!

Here's hoping!

I would also like a version for mac. I have 2 macs(G4 Desktop, and a 12" powerbook) and I had to dig out my old windows 98 machine so i could program my ax1500.

Roborun is a fairly complex program that performs two main functions:

- Running the motors with real-time monitoring

The two do not need to be available in the same program.

Configuring the controller on a MAC or Linux machine can be done already using a terminal emulation program. Figuring out the commands is extra work but it can be done.

The part for exercising the controller would be most interesting. We would be happy to support such an effort by revealing that part of the Roborun source but the language and GUI being very different, this will be a programming-from-scratch exercise.

Well, I'll be happy to try to tackle the project. I plan to anyway for my own uses. Qt is a logical choice because it's a cross-platform framework and pretty robust. I'd like to be able to do the firmware updating as well as configuration and operation.

It's a pretty decent application framework that happens to be cross-platform.

Here's an open-source serial port class for it.

Being a Mac user by profession, I'd welcome this. I'm hoping with the new chips, more micros etc are brought into the Mac platform.

JESUS CHRIST! Why the hell is there not a linux version of roborun!? Why must we be doomed to run awesome creative robots on a bogged and bloated system!?

and if it were linux, surely it would port easily to OS X!

DO IT!!!!!!
