Unique Controller Needs/Questions

10 years 11 months ago #29527497 by newman180
Hi,

I am working on a senior design project at my university. We are implementing a Formula One style KERS unit (kinetic energy recovery system) into a racing kart.

I am in need of a controller which can withstand 1-3 seconds of 500 amp draw while operating in the 12-16v range, and is also capable of high amp regen. (*using ultracapacitors so amperage is limited on components limits)

I noticed that the AX2550HESC seemed to match my demands. Is this correct? Is there a more appropriate product?

Thanks,
Austin

The HDC2450S or VDC2450S are better choices. You can use the built-in programming language to create the controlled regeneration algorithm.

We recommend you fit your motor with an encoder so that you can measure the actual motor speed. This will allow you to implement more sophisticated controlled regeneration strategies. If you go that route, you will need the HDC2450S as it is the one with encoder input.

Thank you for the response.

I\'m not too familiar with controller programming.
My regeneration will only be controlled by a potentiometer attached to a brake pedal. What type of code will I need? Is this something that already exists?
What is the maximum regeneration amperage?

If my strategy changes to 350 amp at 24-32v, is the same controller still recommended?

Thanks,
Austin
