Behavior of Controller

If there was a pause in serial communication, due to an error, would the controller continue reading/sending the same signal that it left off on or would it just shutdown and restart?

The signal would likely be considered lost. How long of a pause are you referring too? If a motor command is being issued, say !G 1 100 and the watchdog timer is still defaulted to time out after 1 second, then a pause of 1 second or longer would make the motor stop spinning. it would resume spinning again if there is a valid command being issued causing the watchdog timer to awaken.

If the watchdog timer was disabled (^RWD 0)and you were to send the same command, then the motor would continue spinning until given a stop command !G 1 0.
