getting real time Amps readouts

I need to have a display with real-time amps (motor or battery) being read out during operation. One way to do it is to install a hall-based current sensor and read the amps with a separate voltmeter.

But is there a way to do it without installing additional sensors? If it has to be something no less than a microcomputer, can you suggest some simple and cheap models? Thanks.

Our controllers can output their data either via CAN or via RS232/USB.

Furthermore you could use douts with the help of scripting, but that would increase the complexity a lot.

We can suggest our IO extender RIO which has to analog outputs and can easily communicate with any of our controllers via CAN (using RoboCAN).
