I have a VBL1650 controller setup to a potentiometer for speed control of a high powered brushless motor (200amp 60volts) and I have seen some motor operation when my hand gets near or touches the 15 pin input connector for the motor control. Is there any recommended termination of the unused pins I.E. Digital inputs or some capacitor filtering of the analog input that may reduce this noise sensitivity?

All unused inputs can be disabled from the Configuration tab of Roborun+.
Yes you can filter the noise on an analog input by placing a small cap between the input pin and a GND pin

I think the other inputs are software disabled but I will check that ... It's been a couple of years since I programmed it. The cap I will try right at the connector since the throttle wire is not shielded and about 3 feet long. Thanks for the quick reply! Next issue is the over aggressive regen...

Hopefully you are able to get it worked out. Just a note that the VBL1650 is a discontinued controller that we no longer service. It has been replaced by our
HBL1660

Thanks on that article which I think is more in depth than the other one I read a few years ago. This motor is very tightly coupled magnetically and has a 13milliohms winding resistance. If the leads are shorted the shaft is actually extremely hard to turn by hand with a vice grips on the 7/8 inch shaft. I guess the regen braking motor shorting pulse width could be shorter and at a higher frequency to make it less aggressive... As it is it can put you over the scooter handlebars if you don't hang on with both hands and that is with the programming I added to the controller to ramp down the speed gradually and using some voltage feedback to control the current. Brakes are not really needed on this thing with the regen the way it is now and I laugh at steep hills easily putting 10 to 12 amps back into a 24 volt lithium battery pack at 5 miles per hour going down a hill.

Here is a photo...I think...
the controller is under the white battery boxes containing a 10ah 6 cell 10C MultiStar lithium battery from Hobby King and as you can see the motor is 7 inches in diameter gates belt drive to the rear 10 inch wheel. That battery is capable of about 12 mile range, uses about 18-19 watt hours per mile and speed is a almost a mph per volt of battery so 24 volts is about 22mph top speed. As the voltage gets higher the throttle gets a bit touchy!! Total weight about 56lbs mostly because of the heavy steel frame.

That center hole used to be full with three black AGM hawker batteries like the two behind it at 22lbs each (now that lithium 10ah 24 volt pack is only about 4?lbs) sticking out a little on top plus a 15 lbs OEM 100 amp controller on top of that replaced by the 2.6lbs RoboteQ controller good for 150 amps. It's pretty basic but has about 4000 miles on it so far...working on an aluminum version which will be even lighter and have suspension.
