Firmware for VDC2450

Hi There
I'm currently trying to set up 2 VDC2450 controllers that I've had sitting on the shelf for a few years now.
I downloaded roborun+ and got a message saying 
Control unit menu file missing
Power unit menu file missing.
My controllers have firmware v1.3 currently, I tried to upgrade to v1.8 from the files page however I get a message saying the firmware is not compatible and may damage the controller.
Do I need an earlier version of roborun or an earlier firmware file?
