I am building a robot with a motor on each side (windshield wiper motors - 12V, 15A each) and plan on using one R/C joystick to drive it like a tank. I am using a 14.4V battery and am thinking of the AX1500 for speed and directional control. Is this right? I have no onboard programming.

The AX1500 can handle comfortably 2 x 20A, so it should fit your application.

Beware of the following, when using winshield wiper motors:

- The motors case is connected to ground. You should isolate them from the chassis, if you use a metalic chassis.

- They tend to rotate faster in one direction vs the other. If you mount one on the left and the other on the right, they will be spinning in different direction in order for your robot to move forward. The AX1500 can compensat for this (see L/R adjust in manual) but only up to a point.

- Winshield wiper motors have integrated switches that are normally used to make the wiper blades return to rest position when turning off. This may come in the way in your design.

If you can afford the extra cost, go for the NPC2212 (www.npcrobotics.com). They are remarkably smooth, quite and efficient.
