controller power switch

controller power switch was created by Darrell
I've hooked up a power on/off switch to the controller power lines (yellow/blk)
but it doesn't seem to have any effect on the controller. Switch is a simple on/off with leads for power, load, and ground. I'm doing all my testing with a 12v battery. Eventually I'll be powering my motors with two 12v in series. My question is two part: A. Why isn't the switch turning the controller on and off, and B. My switch is rated for 12v. Will this be a problem once the 24v system is running? Thanks.

If you have your switch between the thin yellow and thin black wire, then for it to work you also need to have the battery hooked up between the thick red and black wires.

With the switch off (i.e. yellow and black not connected to each other), the controller should turn on when you apply 12V or more on the thick wires. Then, when you flip the switch on (yellow and black conntected to each other), the controller should turn off.

There is no problem using a 12V switch. The actual voltage that is between the yellow and black wire (i.e the voltage that the switch sees) is less than 12V anyways.

I did have power hooked up to the controller. With power hooked up, touching the yellow/blk wires together should turn the unit off, yes? It does not. I need to solve this rather simple issue before installing on my bot. Any other suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong here? Thanks,
Darrell

I see nothing wrong in what you are doing. It should work.
We have never seen this problem before, so before concluding that this circuit of controller is defective, try grounding the yellow wire directly (without a switch).

I hate it when you hear "I've never seen that before!" LOL
I'll try grounding just the yellow wire and get back to you. Thanks.

Cosma,
Just so we're on the same page. I have no microcontroller hooked up for this test, just Roboteq, battery, fuse, and switch. With battery hooked up, Roboteq shows "no control" in the readout. I assume when the unit is switched "off", this readout goes out. Dark. Nothing. Correct?

I grounded the yellow and still no effect. Should I return this unit or is there anything else I can do or check? Thanks
