Optical encoder

Hi, I purchased the AX3500 controller. I will be using this to power two motors which control both speed and direction of a vehicle. The conroller is working well and I am now intersted in using its optical encoder for more accuracy. Currently I have two encoder wheels with an aperature opto-electronic single channel slotted interrrupter switch on each wheel. Will I be able to use this, or do I need the quadrature encoder that the AX3500 recommends? If I am able to use this, how will I be able to? Thank you.

You will need two sensors per wheel in order to create a quadrature. See if it is possible to insert one not far from the one that is already installed.
