AX2500 Analog driven Position mode?

AX2500 Analog driven Position mode? was created by jamez_warner

I'm trying to get an AX2500 running v1.3 to run both outputs in position mode driven by a potentiometer connected to the analog input.<BR><BR>If I use the 1.9 software available on your website I am able to choose AB position mode, but can only select encoder as the input type (control is via RC)<BR><BR>Any idea's how to achieve this? I bought the controller with this in mind... Do I need a firmware upgrade? (this is a 2500 not a 2550)

I only have a copy of the 1.0 cd, and the links previously posted on this forum for 1.3 are dead...

The 1.9 roborun also reports the controller as a 3500 for some reason?<BR><BR>James<BR>

The AX2500 is a very old product. The most recent firmware that works with it is v1.3.

Can you confirm it supports this mode?

Where might I download a copy of Roborun v1.3?<BR><BR>James

The AX2500 has 2 analog inputs. They can be used for position feedback if the controller is used in RC or RS232 mode.

The current Roborun should work with it.

Thanks Cosma, the latest roborun is reporting it as a 3500, not as the 2500 as 1.0 does, and even if you can choose analog mode by clicking around a bit it returns an error whilst saving back to the controller (v1 works fine but I cannot select positional mode as I presume it wasn't implemented)<BR><BR><BR>If I reset to factory on roborun and save, that works - but if I change to positional mode (albeit encoder, I need analog) it gives this:<BR>"Parameter store error, please try reloading from controller"<BR>

Position mode may have been implemented already in v1.3.

If you cannot configure the controller with Roborun, you may try by using the switches on the controller. Configure it for Position A &amp; B.

I've managed to get hold of the 1.3 software elsewhere, and have firmware'd the unit to make sure it's all good.<BR><BR>Now I can select AB position mode, and save it to the controller - but I have no option to choose analog or encoder inputs...<BR>The motor behaviour is different, pushing the stick each way seems to add or subtract from the current speed. The pot is correctly supplying 0-5v onto the analog input. If i rotate the pot manually, the display does change at one end, but i'm guessing it's trying to use analog as an input rather than a sensor?<BR><BR>Using the buttons to check, the software sets C to value 3,though I'm guessing its trying to use encoder inputs rather than analog ones perhaps?<BR><BR>I also get a 450 error Wrong numer of arguments or invalid property assignment when trying to use the "Run" tab in 1.3
<BR>I'm getting very frustrated with what I was told was a decent piece of kit,<BR>Cosma can you shed any light on this? I have a week to get this setup in the desired configuration - a strict deadline as it's for a TV show.<BR><BR>James<BR><BR>

It is normal that you wouldnt see the encoder as a choice. This became an option only on later versions of the controller and firmware. Default will be analog feedback in your case.

There was some confusion on the connector pinout at that time. It may be that you have analog 1 and 2 swapped.

To be sure, use roborun to verify that you see ana1 changing when the feedback 1 pot is changing.

For setup/troubleshooting the position mode, use roborun as follows:

- set PID to P=1, I=0, D=0
- verify that the power level = analog value - command value

Success! Swapping Analog1 with 2 sorted it - Thanks for your help Cosma
