How to read wheel speed efficiently? was created by kiransmk
Hi,
I am trying to read the motor speed efficiently from my AX3500 control board. I used the Roborun utility, it always showed 1 as the speed value. I actually want RPM value, Roborun utility showed 73 in RPM, for 4 base time and PPR@200. And also is there any relation between the distance devider and speed calculation, because when the distance divider is 1 speed is always 0. So, what prameters should I configure to the controller to make it work and see the resolution of 10 RPM, in the Roborun Utility.
Thank you.
Kiran

Using different time base values is what will give the max speed you can measure. If you enter a number and a PPR, you will see what the max speed can be for these values. Divide that max speed by 127 and that give you how many RPM for each increment of reported speed number.
Distance divider has no effect on measured speed.

thanks for response.
Okay, now is the motor command value is in RPM or some thing else, it says speed of the position value in the manual. What do you mean by that?
Thank you.

Speed is reported with a number ranging from 0 to +127 or -127.
When entering time base and PPR on roborun, you will see what the max speed is, that is the actual RPM when reported speed is 127. From there you can figure the speed for all other values.

But, is there a way to read the encoder speed and control the motor speed simultaneously in the Roborun utility.

If you set the controller in speed mode, in the run tab of Roborun you will read the actual speed in the Enc box. Speed is reported as a number from 1 to +/127. Roborun does not make the conversion to RPM.
