Using an HDC2450 Dual 300A with two AmpFlow A28-400s? was created by Miaximus
Howdy!
I would like to ask about the notion of running a pair of AmpFlow A28-400s using a dual-channel Roboteq HDC2450, and would like to know if you think the controller can handle the A28-400s?
I've tried to find as much documentation as I can about the current draw of the A28-400s, and at peak it's listed at about 51 Amps, and hits a very reasonable power/torque at 80-100 AMPs, but is capable of going all the way up to 300+ AMPs if it gets stalled.
If I am careful and monitor the motor current draw with current sensors on each Motor, and set triggers to cut or reduce power to the motors if the AMPs get too high, is it possible to use this combination?
Any input would be much appreciated! :)
Thanks,
Kris

You can limit the motor current in our controllers settings, under the motor output section. It will fall under the "amps limit" menu.
You can also set the controller to take an action if a trigger at x amps is reached in that same menu.

TechSupport,
Thank you Very much for the reply, and for the re-assurance. :)
Your documentation is Excellent, I guess I was just unsure and am trying very hard to get the motor/power system right the first time.
One other question if I may about Pre-Charge Resistors...
The documentation calls for using a 1,000 Ohm, 0.50 Watt resistor on the solenoid contactors. However, in the research I have done over the last few weeks, I have found that other speed controller vendors (mainly those used in Golf Carts) recommend using a pre-charge resistor of 220, 440 or 1,000 Ohm at 10 Watts - which is a much higher wattage resistor than what the Roboteq manual calls for.
Is the intention for using a smaller-watt resistor to charge the capacitors at a slower-rate than say a golf-cart speed controller would require? Just curious really, I ordered the 1,000 Ohm, 1/2 Watt resistor specified in your documentation. :)
Thanks!!
Kris
