SDC2160NS wont detect using usb connector

I am brand new to using this type of tech. Please bear with my ignorance. I recently recieved my SDC2160NS speed controller. With nothing but power connected to it I plugged it in to my computer via usb. I have the Roboteq roborun+ software installed and the controller itself show a green light next to the "U", but neither my computer sees it nor does the software. any help to get this connected would be appreciated.

Thank you

Rick

The NS does not support USB as the driver chip is removed. The controller should have came with the molded RS1 cable(black) that is your RS232 connector.

You will need to connect via RS232.

If you cut off the 15 pin male end of that cable, it will expose 3 wires. Re, black, and brown.

Red is ground, goes to pin 5.
Black is Tx, goes to pin 2
Brown is Rx, goes to pin 3.

You can add these wires to another cable like the RC2.

You can plug the RS1 cable directly to the I/O connector and then to pc. Power on controller and then it should connect.

If your pc does not have a serial port, then you can use an RS232 to USB converter.

I purchased the item here www.robotmarketplace.com/products/RTQ-SDC2160NS.html
The second line clearly states that I can connect using USB. If youre telling me that is untrue, then this description on that site is incorrect and I should deal with them for a refund?

I looked at the link and in the table it says "No" under USB. You If you are needing usb, then you can't currently use Can Bus, which is what the "N" refers to in the product SDC2160NS. "S" refers to the channel being a single channel controller.

If you get the regular SDC2160S, then it will support USB.

I've sent Robotmarketplace an email to let them know to get that corrected.

We are moving to a new pcb update of the SDC21xx that will come with can bus included so the N and NS controllers will eventually go away once this has been released. So can and USB will work, but you can't use the USB at the same time you are using can bus.
