Interfacing between the Raspberry Pi and MDC2230 motor controller

6 years 5 months ago #29532401 by JHolov295
For our project we are currently trying to get our raspberry pi running raspbian to communicate and control the mdc2230. However we are having trouble finding documentation for this. We have seen forums online about this topic but they have not been very helpful. Ideally we would like to be able to communicate with this board using python. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Our motor controllers use RS232 serial communication protocol while Raspberry Pi uses TTL. In order to get them to communicate with one another you will need an RS232 - TTL adapter. We offer one of these adapters on our website HERE .

Serial commands and queries can be sent from the RPi to the controller as they are written in Section 16 of our user manual. Beyond this we are not experienced in using Raspberri Pi and Raspbian so we do not have much documentation or instruction to give.

The adapter in the picture looks like its a 3 row 5 pin on each row connection. The connector on the mdc2230 is 8 and 7.

The adapter has a standard male 9-pin Dsub, our controller has a standard female 15 pin dsub. These are meant to be connected to one another using one of our breakout boards which will allow a 9-15 pin connection.
