FBL2360S and Encoders

We have a FBL2360S (FB26 v2.2A C-0020) .

Can we use Rotary Incremental Encoders or a Resolver (Analog Sin/Cos Absolute Encoder) to drive the brushless DC motor? If so can you please explain how?

The Roboteq website indicates that it FBL2360S works only with HALL SENSORS. But the FBL2360S Datasheet indicates that it can work with a Resolver (Analog Sin/Cos Absolute Encoder).

Appreciate any clarification on this!

Thanks.

To operate in trapezoidal commutation (default) you need to have Hall sensors.

You can use an incremental encoder or Sin/Cos analog sensor to operate in sinusoidal commutation however. See page 99-106 of our User Manual for more info about this.

Thankyou very much for the quick response!!

Just to make sure I understand correctly, in the case of FBL2360S, incremental encoder should be connected to the 25 pin connector (pins named ENC1A &1B or ENC2A & 2B) to drive the motor in Sinusoidal commutation?

Thanks.

Yes that is correct.

It is worth stressing that sinusoidal commutation will require the use of an incremental encoder that has a relatively high resolution. Optimally your encoder should have a PPR of 128 times the pole pairs in your motor. This is described in the manual on page 100.

There is also a setup process that must take place. See page 102 and 104 of the manual.
