Closed Loop Speed Position Mode - Without Hall sensor only Encoders

Hi,

I just received information from a manufacturer stating that the motors that they ship do not contain Hall sensors.
only Optical Encoders are present(1024 counts).

I have the MBL1660A and would like to use it with this motor for low-speed speed control.

Can this be achieved with just encoders alone or does the hall sensor connection need to be there?

In the past I've used motors with both hall sensors and encoders plugged into the roboteq controllers (MBL1660A to be exact).
Just wondering if an encoder only option will work.
