24V BLDC motors on 48V system

Greetings fellows,

I was wondering if I could configure the motor controller (either Brushless or Brushed) to work with motors (DC/BLDC) with lower nominal voltage than the Vmot voltage, as the battery of my system is at 48V. How can I protect the motors?

If there is no variable, is there any other way to overcome that issue, except from purchasing DC to DC step down power supplies?
