Will this be new firmware as it seems one not able to transfer firmware via the raspberry:
When executing the firmware upadte command as per manual, the response is only "-" and not IAP as per manual.

If the programming really failed, then you will be observing a constant reboot and crash. On the serial port, you will see "Starting ..." repeating continuously. If that happenend, there is a way to recover by pressing and holding the w key on the keyboard. RIO will enter the firmware update mode and display "IAP" followed by the C letter every second. You can then use send file function on the terminal emulator and transer the rioxxxupdate.bin file.
Rgarding firmware update from the RPI, you can do the same thngs as shown above while "Startup ..." is displaying in minicom. If RIO is running normally, you can enter the update mode by sending "%RESET 321654987". This will cause RIO to reboot and while it is restarting, press and hold the w key.
Finally, beware that the firmware for the version 1 of RIO (without USB) is not the same as the one for the new RIO with USB. Loading one onto the other will cause crash.
